$ 44.64

Availability: 100 in stock
  • Condition: THIS APPEARS TO BE A 1930'S WORLD ATLAS PRODUCED BY THE RENOWNED COMPANY OF FREYTAG& BERNDT. THERE IS NO DATE THAT I FOUND BUT A SINGLE SIDED MAP OF THE "GROSSDEUTSCHE'S REICH" WAS SLIPPED IN ADJACENT TO THE STANDARD "DEUTSCHES REICH" MAP ON PAGE 15, WITH FEWER COLORS BUT SHOWING AUSTRIA AND CHE CZECH REPUBLIC AS PART OF GERMANY, BUT POLAND REMAINING AS POLAND. I AM GUESSING THEN THAT THIS WAS SOLD IN EARLY 1939? THE SLIPPED IN MAP IS THE ONLY MAP PRINTED ON ONE SIDE ONLY AND IS CLEARLY THE SAME MAP AS THE STANDARD MAP OF GERMANY BUT WITH SOME QUICK BORDER CHANGES ADDED IN. WHILE THERE IS AGE RELATED PAPER TONING THROUGHOUT, THE SLIPPED IN PAGE HAS DARKENED A BIT MORE, ESPECIALLY AT THE EDGES. THIS COPY IS ALSO GREAT FOR RETAINING THE DUST JACKET. PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION.

    DUST JACKET:
    Nicely decorated but darkened paper. They used quite a bit of excess paper on this jacket, and though the top portion of the exterior of the original spine is gone, the paper that is there now is part of the original jacket and was floating loosely inside. It appears that it was the inner layer of folded paper so it did not darken as much as what has been exposed to the elements but the paper is original. There has been some interior clear tape repair to keep the loose paper in place and prevent further splitting of the paper on the spine cover. (PHOTO 4) shows the exterior as it is now and (PHOTO 12) shows the interior with a few tape repairs and the extra paper on the inside. As shown in (PHOTO 7), there are still small areas where the jacket does not cover the hinges. There is enough interior paper to make it look better, including one loose piece in the shape of the spine curve that was part of one of the original inner spine fold-overs, I assume.
    BOOK:
    The boards have been well protected by the jacket. There are numerous staples that hold separate sections into the book and a few have very light surface rust. There is age related paper toning. There are 141 pages of maps followed by 151 pages of index. Includes a number of fold out maps. All is attached and all is in very good condition. The only page not attached is the page of the updated German borders slipped in (photo 2). There is age related paper toning and an occasional spot but that's about it. I found no tears, no creases and no writing. There is soiling to exposed page edges. The slipped in German map has edge wear at top and a bit of spotting on the bottom right (PHOTO 2). (PHOTO 6) reflect the two German maps with the one with page 15 in the lower right being part of the book and the other having been slipped in.
    Nicely maintained overall and interesting for the dust jacket and the updated Germany map. I really wonder how often they were required to remake the maps.
    I utilize a third party EBAY supplied shipper for international sales. This is part of the Global Shipping Program. Please note the actual shipping cost before purchasing. That is not my shipping fee and I neither receive it nor know what the amount is. I have no control over import fees that may be charged.
    Please do not commit to "buy it now" until you have seen the shipping amount that you will be charged. Thank you.
    For International Buyers:  Media Mail shipments only. Please note that, although you are likely paying very high shipping costs to have this item sent to you, I am not charging those costs. In the case of books, I utilize "media mail" to get the box to the third party shipper. "Media mail" is a very SLOW speed mailing process reserved for books and records that are potentially very heavy. If you can not wait for my shipment to reach the third party shipper at a very slow pace, please contact me before purchasing and I can add a faster (and more expensive) alternative to the listing to get the item to the third party shipper.
