Proof (12: 3,4,5) Snow-PT1b. A pattern cent made to test German silver as a coinage alloy. German silver is roughly 30% nickel, 60% copper and 10% zinc. The obverse is the Coronet Liberty head used on the 2-1/2 dollar gold coin. The reverse has ONE CENT within a wreath. This is a thick planchet strike and is moderately scarce with 10 examples known. An additional 25 or so examples exist with a thin planchet (J-149 and J-150a). This example has medium mirrors and very few marks.
